Half the air in a given space by Martin Creed is one of his most iconic works, in which air is made visible by packaging it inside balloons. First conceived in 1998, this series is a cornerstone of his minimalist but playful approach, characterized by the use of everyday materials which, through the application of rigorous logic, are developed to a point of sublime absurdity.

Visitors are welcome to enter and explore, thereby changing the work's shape and volume themselves. Immersed among the balloons, they may enjoy the knock-on effect their every movement makes, or lose their bearings in the disorienting environment. It is a sculpture which takes the shape of the space between people and things, joining them together in the shared space.
