Cupid’s Koi Garden, the first inflatable kawaii fountain displayed at the Pop Air exhibition at La Villette in Paris in 2022, is set up under the peristyle of the Grande Halle.
Towering over 6 meters high, Eness’s Cupid holds court among an adorable school of ten luminous and interactive Koi fish. Visitors stroll through the proverbial garden among the miniature tanks where cheeky koi fish spout water from phantasmagorical printed bodies into ponds set up throughout the installation.
Giant roving eyes reveal themselves as one walks among the inflated sculptures. Cupid’s Koi Garden combines technical innovations such as motion capture, interactive musical scores, and choreographed water streams.
Symbols of love and friendship in Japan with which Nimrod Weis has a strong connection, the artwork aims to spread those same sentiments to its audience, as well as a little bit of watery mischief if you’re not paying attention to where the next water stream might be directed.
